RICHMOND – Eddie Stratton, treasurer of the Baptist General Association of Virginia and the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, has assumed responsibilities for development and fundraising for the Mission Board.
Stratton will continue his role as treasurer, a post he has held since 2002. Helping him in that role will be Walter Harrow, a retired Deltaville educator who has been named assistant to the treasurer.
The action recently was approved by the Mission Board's executive committee.
Administrative costs for the board's development activities—including funding for the new position of assistant to the treasurer—will be provided by the Virginia Baptist Foundation. John Upton, executive director of the BGAV and the Mission Board, has led a search commitee since 2006 to seek a person to take on development.
“In the midst of that search it became apparent to me that Eddie was the one with the skill set, experience, relationships and organizational status to speak with major donors about VBMB projects and endowment,” said Upton. “I also felt that this must not interfere with Eddie's responsibilities as BGAV treasurer.”
Upton said Harrow will work with Stratton and the Mission Board's support services team to manage day-to-day operations in the treasurer's office.
Harrow is a former BGAV president and former chair of the BGAV's budget committee. He began working four days a week—Monday through Thursday—on July 16.
“Walter knows our organization well and understands our budget thoroughly,” said Upton. “It is a joy to welcome him to our team and to see a need fulfilled.”
