Christians have long prayed God would send revival. Now, some Christian leaders say they are seeing signs of revival thanks to President Donald Trump.
“Now, after just 100 days in office, the president has inspired a spiritual revival in our nation,” wrote Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., in the Washington Examiner. “He’s reminding Americans that our rights come from God, not government, and he’s unafraid to lead with Biblical truth.”
Politically active health-and-wealth preacher Andrew Wommack recently claimed Trump has helped speed up the Third Great Awakening, which Wommack says began in 2021.
“There was a demonic spirit that was intimidating preachers,” Wommack told the audience during a recent FlashPoint Live event featuring pro-Trump “prophets” at his Charis Bible college in Colorado. “When Trump was elected — I don’t know if other people felt this — but I, there was a change in the atmosphere. … There has been a demonic power that has been operating in America that has been gaining ground, and we’ve seen something broken since January 20.”
Historically, revival has come from pulpits, not politics. America’s first and second “Great Awakenings” of the 18th and 19th centuries focused on salvation from sin and new life in Christ. These revivals spurred church growth and sparked far-reaching social reforms.
But a new breed of preachers and self-declared prophets prioritizes politics over evangelism, saving America over saving souls. Some of them prophesied that Trump’s reelection would spur revival.
Bunni Pounds, a vice president with Family Policy Alliance, said, “Across America, something powerful is beginning to stir.” Her organization is Focus on the Family’s political partner working in 40 states. “It’s not a coordinated campaign or a viral trend. It’s a movement of the Spirit, a moment of revival. … Hearts are softening, and lives are changing.”
The Museum of the Bible based in Washington, D.C., recently sponsored an event organizer Joshua Feuerstein described as “an opportunity for Christian pastors to come to a revival at Mar-a-Lago,” Trump’s Florida resort.
Feuerstein is a Oneness Pentecostal preacher who leads a small organization called America’s Revival. Speakers at his event included former Trump adviser and ReAwaken America speaker Michael Flynn, “worship warrior” Sean Feucht, and actor, comedian and conspiracist Russell Brand.
The cheapest tickets for the event (held not at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort but 80 miles away at Trump National Doral) were $500, with “a special discounted offer exclusively for pastors.” The $7,000, $3,500 and $1,750 VIP tickets sold out.
“America’s Awakening Begins Here,” said promotional materials for Courage Tour, in which Wallnau and other pro-Trump “prophets” held politicized revival meetings in the seven major swing states in the months before the 2024 election. “Experience revival in 7 key states … marking the dawn of our nation’s Third Great Awakening. Embrace transformation and reformation.”
Conservative Christian leaders see signs that “God is moving” in Trump’s actions against elite universities, illegal migrants and transgender people. They praise Trump’s new task forces on religious liberty and anti-Christian bias and his rollback of environmental protections, as seedbeds of revival.
“It’s Morning in America!” wrote Joe Waresak of the James Dobson Family Institute in a post-election post that echoes Dobson’s rhetoric: “On November 5th, the Lord turned the page for America, and a new chapter is now before us.”
“Amazingly, it was a sweeping win for the conservative platform as the Republicans won the Oval Office and majorities in both the Senate and the House! I believe God answered our prayers and has graciously spared our nation from an onslaught of a radical leftist agenda that would have probably destroyed its remaining moral foundation and the freedoms we hold dear.”
He added: “I pray that this awakening that seems to have occurred for many Americans will result in more than an amazing political comeback by a candidate or a party. I hope this movement toward returning to our country’s golden years will become a spiritual revival that will result in millions of people embracing Jesus as their Lord and Savior.”
