A cast of Trump-supporting Christian nationalists will participate this Sunday in “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving” on the National Mall.
The event is scheduled to take place at the exact time most American Christians are at worship in their local congregations — 10:45 a.m.
One Jewish rabbi is listed among the religious leaders for the event, and two Roman Catholic clergy are listed; the rest are conservative evangelical Christians.
There are no Muslims, Hindus, Mormons or moderate to liberal Protestants included.
Publicity for the event states: “Join with neighbors and friends from every state in the Union in giving thanks and praise to God for 250 years of His Providence for the United States, in praying that God Bless and Protect America for the next 250 years, and in solemnly rededicating our country as One Nation under God. In speech, song, and storytelling, we will bear witness to the extraordinary story of how God has powerfully and wondrously shaped the United States of America — remembering the people, sacrifices, and defining moments in which God has powerfully manifested Himself in our history.”
Organizers claim: “This is more than an event — it is a once in a lifetime national moment.”
The Trump administration promotes the unfounded claim that the Unites States was founded as a “Christian nation.” The chairman of the president’s handpicked Religious Liberty Commission recently declared church-state separation is a lie and a myth.
Dan Patrick said the concept of separation of church and state is the “biggest lie that’s been told in America since our founding.”
All the events promoted by Rededicate 250 promote this historical inaccuracy as fact.
Sunday’s daylong festivities will include Scripture reading, testimonies, sermons, prayers and “rededication of our country as one nation to God.”
Publicity includes a “church engagement toolkit” that encourages churches to promote the event and to incorporate elements of the livestream either in Sunday morning worship or to open the church as an all-day livestream venue.
The program is organized around three “pillars”:
- “The Miracles that Made Us: A reflection on God’s providence throughout 250 years, honoring the faith that inspired America’s Founders and has carried us forward in every generation since.”
- “The Miracles Still in Our Midst: Personal testimonies of God’s healing in our lives and in our land.”
- “A New Birth of Faith and Freedom: A collective expression of gratitude for 250 years of freedom — and a unified moment of rededication asking for God’s blessing, guidance and grace for the next 250.”
Gates will open at 9 a.m. Sunday for those who have registered in advance. Livestreaming will be available only through “partner churches, ministries and organizations.” The program will run from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. — eight and a half hours.
