CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (ABP) – Jack McEwen, a former pastor and professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, died Dec. 5.
McEwen, 84, was pastor of churches including First Baptist Church of Chattanooga in the 1970s and 1980s, where he was pastor emeritus. He was an academic dean at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky., from 1980 until 1983 and then at Chattanooga State from 1983 to 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, June Holland McEwen, two children and four grandchildren.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Chattanooga. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church, United Way of Greater Chattanooga, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga or the Jack H. McEwen Scholarship at Chattanooga State Community College.
