A former Texas Baptist youth minister has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for enticing a 13-year-old girl into a nine-month sexual relationship in 2014.
Derek Hutter, 38, pleaded guilty in June to enticing a girl in his youth group at South Garland Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. Police say they had sex 20 times between January and September 2014 at both his home and the church.
Hutter was arrested last October after the girl’s parents discovered an inappropriate email. He was indicted in December on federal child pornography charges after sexually explicit photos were discovered on his cell phone.
Hutter joined the staff of South Garland Baptist Church in 2007 after previously working on staff or as a consultant or volunteer with a total of seven churches.
