RETIREMENTS
• Carl Freeman has announced plans to retire as minister of music at River Road Church, Richmond, effective August 31.
• Sharon Laslie is retiring as music director at Bethel Church, Midlothian, effective May 16.
ORDINATIONS
MISSION MOMENT: Clinch Valley Baptist Association sent a team of 13 members to Vancouver, British Columbia, Feb. 10-18 to work alongside groups such as the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team and Samaritan’s Purse to witness to thousands of people. The team distributed gospel pins, welcome bags, sports New Testaments, books of Mark, free water and hot coffee, and led worship at a church for the homeless where six professions of faith were made. • George Scutt was ordained to the gospel ministry by Groveton Church, Alexandria, on April 17. He serves as minister of music at Sunset Hills Church, Alexandria.
• Jillian White was ordained to the gospel ministry on April 25 by Chamberlayne Church, Richmond.
DEATHS
• Retired Virginia Baptist minister Clarence L. Marshall died April 8 at the age of 88. He served as pastor of six churches and was well-known in Southwest Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Coretta L. Marshall; five children, Carolyn M. Spraker, David Marshall, Bonita Durham, Susan M. Corbett and Deborah M. Parker; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 10 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville.
• Retired missionary Roy Wyatt died April 6 in Knoxville, Tenn. He and his wife, Joyce, served as missionaries for the IMB in Spain, Chile and Columbia. He had served as a distinguished professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at the School of Divinity, Gardner-Webb University in N.C. A missionary residence was named after the Wyatts at Cool Spring Baptist on June 27, 2008. “The Wyatt House” was dedicated for use by IMB personnel on stateside assignment as a place for rest and relaxation prior to returning to the field. In addition to his wife, Wyatt is survived by a daughter, Debbi Christinck; and grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn Mee; and a son, Michael. A memorial service was held on April 10 at Central Baptist of Bearden in Knoxville.

• Mount Hermon Church, Moseley, will celebrate its 175th anniversary May 23 at 10:30 a.m. Fred Anderson will be guest speaker. A meal will be served after worship.

• The Virginia Baptist Library Association will hold its spring banquet and conference May 14-15 at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center in Lynchburg. With the theme “Roots Are for Branching Out: 52 Years and Growing!” a variety of conferences will be offered.
