• Tom Sepulveda, concluding his ministry as associate pastor/youth/children at Tomahawk Church, Midlothian.
SERVING OTHERS: The Children in Action at Chatham Baptist Church in Chatham are involved in mission projects to serve others year-round. They filled baby bottles with money for Little Life Ministry, a local ministry to unwed mothers and their children. They worked on quilts for missionaries working with Indians. At Christmas they made cookies for shut-ins and visited a local nursing home where they sang and gave candy to the residents. The children filled tube socks with Epson salts and washing powers for Hope Harbor, a facility for alcoholics and drug dependent men. They are shown above making valentines for women inmates to send to their loved ones.

OPENING DOORS: Bethel Baptist Church in Midlothian opened its doors to the neighborhood in July for one of its largest Vacation Bible Schools ever. The theme was Saddle Ridge Ranch. Lisa Hardy, Cindy Wight and Becky Kaiser led the team that registered more than 90 children.

ASSOCIATIONAL NEWS
VBS: A covered wagon took the place of the pulpit at Goshen Baptist Church the week of June 21-25. It was Bible school week and the theme was Saddle Ridge. Goshen is a small church, so members were pleased to have a total of 51 for VBS. Each year their VBS offering is sent to HopeTree Family Services. The mission project for this year was purchasing items for a woman with three children who was experiencing serious health issues. Food, clothes and toys were donated to this family. • Concord Association will hold revival services Sept. 26-29 at First Church, Chase City. Roger Roller will be evangelist.
OTHER
• The Virginia Baptist Women’s Chorale will be in concert at Chatham Heights Church, Martinsville, on Sat., Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. The program includes traditional and contemporary styles of music. The Chorale is composed of women from across the state who have music leadership roles in their churches.

• Today I Found God is a new children’s book written by former Richmond resident Greg Long. It’s about a boy’s quest to find out why God let’s bad things happen — just like they happened in Greg’s life. In January 2009 Greg, a former member of Monument Heights Church in Richmond, lost his job due to the economy and nine days later, his wife learned she’d soon be out of a job, too. They were forced to sell their home and put their belongings in storage. Somehow in the process of losing everything they found something bigger and so much better — a stronger relati0nship with Christ. Check the website, www. laughalongbooks.com for more information.
CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST: Upper King & Queen Church in Newtown collected school supplies for King & Queen County public schools for its Christmas-in-August missions project. An SUV filled with gifts and supplies was donated. Pictured are WMU members, children and teens around the Christmas tree with supplies.
