STAFF CHANGES

• Doug Davis, to Poroporone Church, Shacklefords, as pastor.

• Don Wilson, to Nelson Church, Nelson, as senior pastor.

MISSION MOMENT: For Children’s Ministry Day on Feb. 19, the children of Orange Baptist Church in Orange visited the residents of Dogwood Village Assisted Living. They shared time and played games with those there. • Kay Ellen Woolridge, to First Church, Petersburg, as minister of music.

RETIREMENTS

• Pat Ellis has retired as pastor of Lake Ridge Church, Woodbridge.

• Avis Nester has retired as pastor of Mt. Hebron Church, Floyd, after having served there for 15 years.

ORDINATIONS

MISSION MOMENT: Members of Walnut Hills Baptist Church in Williamsburg and the Williamsburg community helped Stop Hunger Now package 22,430 high nutrition meals in 2.20 hours on Feb. 12. Assisted by church families, members of local chapters of girl and boy scout troops and the inter-varsity club of William & Mary College, the meals were boxed for shipment to school food programs in under-developed countries. • Judith Freeman-Moss, pastor of Immanuel Christian Ministries in Culpeper, will be ordained to the gospel ministry by the chuch on April 2.

• Elizabeth Mangham Lott, associate pastor of Westover Church, Richmond, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on March 20.

REVIVALS

• Bethel Church, Phenix; revival April 17-20; Steve Freeman, evangelist.

• Dan River Association’s annual senior revival will be April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Clover Church, Clover. Don Bryant will be guest speaker.

• Glade Spring Church, Glade Spring; revival April 10-13; Roger Roller, evangelist.

• Glebe Landing Church, Laneview; revival April 17-20; Roger Roller, evangelist.

CHURCH NEWS

• Messiah in the Passover, a sermonic demonstration showing how Jesus fulfilled the ancient feats of Passover, will be held April 10 at 7 p.m. at Cambridge Church in Richmond. It will be conducted by Rev. Israel Cohen, a representative of Chosen People Ministries, one of the world’s most extensive ministries to God’s chosen people–the Jews. DEATH

• Retired Virginia Baptist pastor Robert Lewis Carlton died in Richmond on Feb. 28. He was a minister for over 50 years at various churches throughout Virginia. He retired from Monument Heights Church, Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Annie Lee Owen Carlton; five children, David, Bobby, Karen, Brian and Daniel Carlton; 11 grandchildren and a sister, Mary Ann Carlton Cobb. A celebration of life service was held March 2 at Monument Heights Church in Richmond.

ASSOCIATIONAL NEWS

• Charles Sinclair  is now serving as team leader/rural church liaison for the NorthStar Church Network. He recently retired as pastor of Trinity Church, Arlington.

PEOPLE

• Every year a 4-6 grade girl who exhibits developing leadership skills and portrays a missional lifestyle is selected as the Outstanding GA from nominations received from churches across Virginia. This year Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia has announced Hannah Elizabeth Craft as its Outstanding GA 2011. Hannah Craft is a 6th grader who is active in Girls in Action at North Run Baptist Church in Dover Baptist Association.

• Keith Smith has joined the staff of the John Leland Center for Theological Studies as interim director of the School of Ministry. He was most recently the senior pastor of Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond. He has worked for Leland’s school of ministry in Richmond as both an instructor and site director since 2003.
