• Hector Velaquez was ordained to the gospel ministry by Iglesia Bautista la Gran Comision, Fairfax, on May 2.
• Chris Lugo, minister of students at Falmouth Church, Falmouth, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on May 31.
• Andrew Thomas Collier was ordained to the gospel ministry by River Road Church, Richmond, on June 28.
• Jimmy Via will be ordained to the gospel ministry by McCabe Memorial Church, Martinsville, on July 19.
CHURCH NEWS
• Derbyshire Church, Richmond, will present its 13th annual “Good Ol’ Gospel Sing” on August 9 at 6 p.m. Featured will be selections presented by various trios, quartets, the Chancel Choir and a special appearance by the Southern gospel group, Dominion. The evening concludes with an old-fashioned watermelon cutting on the front lawn.
• First Church, Coeburn, will celebrate homecoming on August 9 with Bill Johnson as guest speaker.
• Fox Hill Road Church, Hampton, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with homecoming on July 26. W. Robert May will be guest speaker at the 11 a.m. service. A luncheon will follow the service with music and entertainment and new building dedication.
• Lower King and Queen Church, Mattaponi, will hold revival services Aug. 9-12 with Roger Roller as evangelist. There will be a fellowship lunch following the 11 a.m. service on Sunday.
• Main Street Church, Emporia, will celebrate its 170th anniversary on July 26. Alan Thompson will be guest speaker.
• Mooreland Church, North Garden, will celebrate its 105th anniversary August 2 at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be Tom Waddell, retired missionary who served in Zambia. Dinner on the grounds following the service.

• Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond held commencement services May 30 at First Church, Richmond. Students with Virginia ties receiving the Doctor of Ministry degree were: Deborah H. • John Leland Center for Theological Studies awarded degrees on June 13 at First Church, Clarendon. Graduates with Virginia ties receiving the Master of Divinity degree were Kathryn G. Allen, Brenda Baindu McBorrough and Kurt Willard Schleiter. Receiving diplomas in theological studies were Spencer Mattox Dillard, William Lee Friend, Suzanne M. Mason, James I.
