STAFF CHANGES

• Michael Dyer, to Fairview Church, Martinsville, as pastor.

• Mike Morrison, to Middle Cross Church, Blue Ridge Association, as its first pastor.

• Bill Alphin, to Westhunt Church, Richmond, as interim pastor.

• Greg Sink, resigning as minister to students and singles at Jackson Memorial Church, Chesapeake.

DEATH

• Phyllis W. Dixon, wife of retired Baptist pastor Billy J. Dixon, died on April 26. As pastor’s wife, she had served as pianist/organist, Sunday school teacher and taught piano lessons.

ORDINATIONS

• Aaron Kraft will be ordained to the gospel ministry by Franconia Church, Alexandria, in June.

• Earl Woodruff was ordained to the gospel ministry by Vienna Church, Vienna, on April 26.

• Larry Jimenez was ordained to the gospel ministry by The Church at Clarendon, Arlington, on March 29.

• Hector M. Urrutia, was ordained to the gospel ministry at Primera Iglesia Bautista de Groveton, Alexandria, in February.

CHURCH EVENTS

49 YEARS AS TREASURER: A certificate of appreciation was recently awarded to William “Bill” Morrison (left) for 49 years of service as treasurer of Bentonville Baptist Church in Bentonville. Pictured at right is Pastor C. Wayne Woodard presenting the certificate to Morrison.

• The 30-member combined IMAGE youth choir and Jubilante! young adult choir of Derbyshire Church, Richmond, will present a worship concert on Sunday, June 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the church. It will incorporate both traditional choral and contemporary music highlighted by humorous and poignant dramatic sketches. 

• First Church, Danville, will celebrate its 175th anniversary on June 27 and 28. It will begin with a Celebration Dinner on June 27 at 6 p.m. Current and former members, guests and dignitaries will gather for an evening of entertainment, dining and remembrances. Worship will begin at 10 a.m. on June 28 to mark the date of the anniversary. Pastor Stephen Cook will preach and the new hymn commissioned for the anniversary, In Your Sight Eternal God, will be sung by the congregation. A celebratory reception will follow.

• The Swingin' Singers of First Baptist Church of Newport News celebrated its 30th anniversary with the "Wonder of Wonders" musical on Sunday, May 17. The group is open to anyone 55 years and older who loves to sing and minister through music in adult care facilities, retirement communities and other churches. • Hillcrest Church, Ridgeway; 40th anniversary June 7 at 10:30 a.m.; covered-dish luncheon.

• Webber Memorial Church, Richmond; homecoming June 7 at 10:30 a.m.; lunch following the service.
