STAFF CHANGES

• John A. Duke, to Macedonia Church, Foster, as full-time pastor.

• Scott Salsman, to James River Church, Williamsburg, as senior pastor, effective Aug. 29.

• Edward G. Powell Jr., concluding his ministry as pastor of Bethel Church, Midlothian, effective Oct. 1.

• Wertie Turner, concluding his ministry as pastor of Beth Car Church, Madison.

• Glenn Lutz, to Bethel Church, Scottsburg, as interim pastor.

CELEBRATION: Buena Vista Baptist Church in Buena Vista, celebrated Dr. Roy Thomas Day on July 18 to celebrate the completion of a three-year intentional interim ministry. “My Final Counsel for You” was the topic of Thomas’ final sermon for the congregation. Following the service the congregation gathered on the church lawn to dedicate a Japanese maple tree and bench engraved with Dr. Thomas’ name and a stepping stone. A reception followed in the fellowship hall. Through his leadership the church has enjoyed growth and has embarked on a new journey by adopting a mission statement and vision and core values.

• Michael Alsop, to Gayton Church, Richmond, as associate pastor of youth, upper school.

• Bart Dalton, to First Church, Richmond, as minister of youth.

• Jim Kulpa, to White Stone Church, White Stone, as music director.

RETIREMENT

• Gary Fowler will retire as bivocational pastor of Flint Hill Church, Moneta, effective Aug. 30.

ORDINATIONS

• Ruth Lockhart, Shirley Ann Spann, Gloria J. Bland, Melissa Holt, Tess Powell, Frankie Boxon, Brenda Farmer, Nichelle Early and LaChelle Farmer were ordained to the gospel ministry by Mount Pleasant Church, Herndon, on June 27.

• Chris Manuel will be ordained to the gospel ministry on Sept. 19 by Shiloh Church (New Site) in Fredericksburg.
