On mission
Change Matters is a hunger offering collected during the year at youth events sponsored by the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. The 2011 offering will provide nutritious meals to children at Virginia Baptists’ new orphanage in Haiti and create a “mobile grocery store” that will bring food to people in food deserts around the state. Sophia Nunez, a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Staunton, Va., cut the hair of campers at a recent Impact Virginia and donated proceeds to the hunger offering. Nunez (pictured at right) took her hair tools to offer staffers a new haircut or style. When it was suggested she offer haircuts to campers for $5 and donate the proceeds to Change Matters, she thought it a great idea. She spent a total of four evenings, about three hours each, cutting hair for those wanting it. “I love what I do and loved finding something I could do at camp for the kids where I got to bond with them and glorify God with my work,” she says.
