Here are your inspirational clichés for today

OpinionBrett Younger  |  October 23, 2019

“This is the day that the Lord has made!” declares the psalmist. “Let us rejoice and be glad in it!!” (Psalm 118:24, punctuation mine!)

The Lord made this beautiful day. The sun is inviting you to come outside and rejoice. The warmth of this day will make you feel warm inside.

Or it is cold and rainy. The Lord made this dismal day. The dreariness of this day is inviting you to stay inside, because you have to look through the rain to see the rainbow. Or you should go outside, because life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain.

You got out of bed this morning, which would be a big deal if you could not get out of bed. If you are reading these inspirational thoughts while still in bed, that’s fine, too. Rest in the glory of this awesome day.

If you are a person who begins each day with inspirational thoughts, then you already know that this is the day that the Lord has made. If you are surprised to learn this, then you need to listen to the robins greet the morning. Welcome the day with your own song of joy. Hear the coffee shouting, “Wake up!” Be caffeinated with excitement. Look at the flower poking through the sidewalk. Be persistent like that daisy.

The psalmist is warning you: “This is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!” If you are not paying attention, then you might forget who made this day and be bored in it.

Psalm 118 was written for the king of Israel’s victorious return from battle, but for us it is a big yellow smiley-face, “Have a nice day!” This psalm can change your morning, your day and you! Let this song fill you with cheerfulness.

If you think God has closed a door, then start looking for the window God has opened. Maybe God has closed a door because you have the wrong address. Or God wants you to kick down the door.

“If you are not paying attention, then you might forget who made this day and be bored in it.”

Have a blessed day, because today is the first day of the rest of your life. Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery and today a gift. That is why we call it the present.

Keep calm and carry on. Let go and let God. Take a break. Put on the brakes.

Everything happens for a reason, except for unreasonable things. What does not kill you makes you stronger, except for really bad stuff. Cleanliness is next to godliness, which is unfair to those without access to running water. But as it says nowhere in the Bible, God never gives you more than you can handle.

God works in mysterious ways and helps those who help themselves. Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans, but life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.

Dream as if you will live forever. Live every day like it is your last. Treat everyone as if this were their last day.

If life gives you lemons, make lemonade, because it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.

You miss 100 percent of the shots you do not take, so shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars, even though this does not seem scientifically accurate.

Live. Laugh. Love. It is not the number of breaths we take, but the number of moments that take our breath away before we get right back to breathing normally.

Sing like no one is listening. Love like you have never been hurt. Dance like the people who are watching think you are a good dancer.

Do not feel sad if you are reading these inspirational thoughts just before going to sleep and you did not spend the day thinking about this being the day that the Lord has made and being glad in it. Tomorrow will also be a day that the Lord will make. You can rejoice and be glad in it tomorrow.
