Faith-based and secular groups are appealing across the web for donations to help victims of Hurricane Harvey and its drenching aftermath.
Some of those groups are providing ongoing emergency relief to storm survivors. The Salvation Army is accepting online donations for its current efforts, while Texas Baptist Men accepts online contributions and text donations by texting “Hurricane Harvey” to 73256.
Other faith-based groups specialize in mid- to long-term disaster relief. Those efforts range from helping victims find housing, clearing debris from neighborhoods and rehabilitating damaged homes, or even building new ones. These projects typically begin when the immediate catastrophe has passed and can last years.
But even those organizations are raising money to be provided immediately to partner ministries in the Harvey impact zones. They include:
- The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
- Virginia Baptist Disaster Response
- North Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief
- American Baptist Churches USA
- Catholic Charities
- Episcopal Relief and Development
Local charities seeking donations include The United Way of Greater Houston and the Houston Food Bank.
