Heritage Seekers, a Baptist heritage magazine for children and their families, has released its second issue.
The second issue focuses on Baptists working together and tells the stories of Nannie Helen Burroughs, Blanche Sydnor White, Wendy Ryan and Shirley Hayes. All of these women have exemplified the principle of working together.
During the 1930s, White and Burroughs brought together members of Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia with members of the Women's Auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention, an African-American convention, for missions projects. Both leaders spoke throughout the United States and around the world on missions and the importance of coming together for the greater good. Burroughs first did this at the 1905 meeting of the Baptist World Alliance in London, where she spoke before a crowd of over 10,000 people.
In 1909 Burroughs established a school in Washington, D.C., and in the 1930s White led Virginia Baptist women to provide supplies to the school.
Once again, C.J. Key, the magazine's mascot, leads children on exciting adventures. A subscription to Heritage Seekers is $20 a year for four, full-color magazines that lead children on a journey through Baptist heritage. Group rates also are available.
