Every week, I get emails from readers accusing us at BNG of being the Devil’s agents for publishing articles critical of Donald Trump. Inevitably, these writers think we just don’t understand the Bible or politics or culture. They know it all; we know nothing.
No wonder they like Trump; he’s a fellow know-it-all.
Today I had lunch with a friend at the Petroleum Club in downtown Dallas. Not my usual haunt, but the food was good, the view was great, and someone else was paying. Soon after we were seated, my host nodded for me to pay attention to who was entering the room. It was none other than U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz.
We couldn’t make out who all three of his lunch companions were but one of them was a well-known Dallas billionaire. And let me say again, we were at the Petroleum Club, which is located on the top floor of Hunt Oil. I’m sure Bobby and J.R. Ewing were somewhere in the room.
Think about this: Today was the day the insane president of the United States was threatening to bomb another country back to the Stone Age and kill untold numbers of civilians — all for the sake of lower oil prices, which his careless actions made go up in the first place. And our U.S. senator from Texas was luncheoning with a billionaire at the Petroleum Club, as if nothing important were going on in Washington, D.C.
Oh, that’s right! Nothing is going on in the halls of Congress because both chambers are in recess. And neither chamber — led by sycophantic Republicans — has been willing to admit the emperor has no clothes. Neither chamber’s leader thought it necessary to call their members back to session to, I don’t know, maybe invoke the 25th Amendment and remove a madman from the Oval Office or impeach Trump for a third time.
It’s funny that gas prices seem to be the line that woke up many of you who are Trump voters. Crimes against humanity didn’t bother you. Causing people to go hungry and starve didn’t bother you. Demeaning and frivolously suing people didn’t bother you. Sexual assault didn’t bother you. But $4 a gallon gas — damn, that hurts!
“Here’s the deal: The whole Trump mystique is unraveling.”
Now that we’ve got your attention, how about the president’s unhinged Easter threats of war crimes against the people of Iran. I’ve got to agree with Tucker Carlson for the first time ever: No sane person believes Trump’s threats of genocide will accomplish anything except make things worse.
Here’s the deal: The whole Trump mystique is unraveling. He never was a good businessman; he bankrupted companies and left vendors stiffed on payments over and again. He never was a good leader; he’s only out for himself. He never was a good Christian; he shows zero fruit of repentance and mocks our faith while swearing he’s praising us. And now he’s in greater mental decline than Joe Biden ever was.
The warning signs have been there all along; you just refused to see them. But now the check engine light is flashing violently and smoke is steaming from under the hood. The world stands on the brink of catastrophe because not enough people who put Donald Trump in office are willing to admit they missed the warning signs.
The rest of the world needs you to pay attention now. We are at the point of wondering if military leaders will be brave enough to defy a deranged president’s immoral orders. What other sign do you need?
