WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Norman Jameson, a veteran Baptist journalist whose bylines have appeared recently in the Religious Herald and Associated Baptist Press, has joined the advancement staff at Wake Forest University. Jameson, 58, serves as assistant dean for development for the WFU School of Divinity.
Jameson has served Baptists since 1977 as a journalist, public relations official and development officer. Most recently he was editor of the Biblical Recorder, the official news journal for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. He resigned last October when his board refused to defend him against attacks by conservatives for publishing unpopular articles like news stories about the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
He turned to freelance writing, working as a contributing writer for the Religious Herald and on a contract assignment for news writing and special projects for ABP. He also worked with the North American Baptist Fellowship.
In his new job, Jameson will focus on raising funds for the 12-year-old divinity school, one of four professional schools at Wake Forest. The others are medicine, law and business.
