DILLWYN, Va. — James River Baptist Association recently sponsored a Stop Hunger Now campaign to feed hungry people around the world. Antioch, Antioch-Union, Arvon, Buckingham, Cedar, Chestnut Grove, Concord, Enon, First Baptist Dillwyn, Fitzgerald Memorial, Gladstone Memorial, Goshen, Grace Hills, Jones Chapel, Mt. Tabor, Mt. Zion, Mulberry Grove and Sharon Baptist churches supported the campaign with financial contributions and/or by sending volunteers to the meal-packaging event. Funds raised purchased dehydrated food and packaging materials.
There were 185 volunteers at the packaging event on June 6 at First Church, Dillwyn, ranging in age from preschoolers to seniors. 23,976 meals were packaged, weighed, sealed and boxed to be shipped to the Ivory Coast. With everyone working together, this was accomplished in about three hours.
Stop Hunger Now will be the offering emphasis in many of James River’s churches during Vacation Bible School this summer and the association looks forward to another meal-packaging event in the fall.
