RICHMOND, Va. — Katherine B. Buzzelli of Godwin High School in Richmond and Alyssa Miller of James Madison University in Harrisonburg are the recipients of the 2010 Lakewood Manor Employee Scholarships.
Each year, Lakewood Manor, one of Virginia Baptist Homes’ retirement communities, awards two scholarships to current staff members or their children who are good students and have extracurricular accomplishments in their school, church and/or community.
“Education opens so many more doors and we are glad that Lakewood can play a role in furthering their development,” said Jeff McInnis, executive director for Lakewood.
In addition to being a member of the National Honors Society, Katherine was recognized with the Henrico County Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award. In the fall, she plans to attend the University of Virginia. Alyssa will graduate from JMU in the spring of 2011 with a bachelor of science degree with a major in communication sciences and disorders. After graduation, she plans to pursue a graduate degree in speech pathology.
