• Stephen Farrar, minister of music at First Church, Galax, was ordained to the gospel ministry on Oct. 14 by the church.
DEATHS
• Former Virginia Baptist pastor, W. Wayne Price, died Oct. 1 in Williamsburg. He had served as pastor of Baptist churches in Tennessee, Kentucky and Williamsburg Church, Williamsburg. In 1998 he was confirmed in the Episcopal church and served at Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Jo Anna Saegusa Price; two daughters, Portia Brooks Price and Jessica Price Vaughan; a grandson; four brothers; and a sister. A memorial service was held Oct. 5 at Bruton Episcopal Church in Williamsburg.
• Former Virginia Baptist pastor, Maurice A. Timberlake, died Sept. 30 in Fredericksburg at the age of 88. He had served as pastor of Northside and Spotswood churches in Fredericksburg. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Timberlake; a daughter, Shirley Bache; two granddaughters; and a brother. A funeral service was held Oct. 3 at Spotswood Church in Fredericksburg.

• A Focus ‘07 Youth Crusade will be held Nov. 8-9 from 6-9 p.m. at the Page County High School. Speakers will be Chris Palmer, a youth pastor from the area, and Joe Fejosky, a church plant pastor from North Carolina. Special musical guest will be The Commonground Band. Admission is free. • The Virginia Baptist Women's Chorale will be in concert Sat., Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Gibeon Church, Callao. The program, “Songs from a Woman's Heart,” includes both traditional and contemporary music. The chorale is composed of ladies from across Virginia who have music leadership roles in their churches.
• Taylorsville Church, Doswell, will host a community music night on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. featuring Ronnie Williams, The Carter Family Sound and the Taylorsville Cut-Ups.
MISSIONS MOMENT: The youth choir of First Baptist Church, Newport News, toured the week of June 29-July 8 singing in several Baptist churches on the way to and from Florida where they participated in a conference called “Son Power,” recorded a CD with 1,200 other youth and helped at a shelter for the underprivileged in Orlando. GROUNDBREAKING: James River Baptist Church in Williamsburg recently held groundbreaking for a $1.3 million multi-purpose facility. The new building will provide space for youth and children's activities, special music events and outreach programs. MISSIONS MOMENT: The Girls in Action and Mission Friends at James Square Baptist Church in Lawrenceville made cards and packed 240 items into care packages to be sent to patients at a Veteran's Hospital for their Christmas-in-August project this year. Both the Elizabeth Spence and Betty Wray Women on Mission groups, along with the congregation, participated in this mission project.
