STAFF CHANGES

Rand Forder, to Muddy Creek Church, Powhatan, as pastor. effective Sept. 5.

Terry Henley, to New Hope Church, Pulaski, as bi-vocational pastor.

Ronnie Campbell, to Bethany Church, Baskerville, as pastor. He had been serving as assistant pastor.

Maynard Plaster, to Henry Church, Henry, as interim pastor.

Robert Wyatt, to Adams Grove Church, Emporia, as interim pastor.

David Welch, to Trinity Church, Bedford, as minister of music.

Scott Curtis, to Emmaus Church, Poquoson, as minister of youth and recreation.

John Baker Thomas, to First Church, Woodbridge, as minister of music and worship.

DEATH

Former Virginia Baptist pastor Calvin E. Rains Sr. died July 30 at the age of 82. He had served churches in California, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. From 1966 to 1977 he served as pastor of First Church, Collinsville. He retired from McCabe Memorial Church, Martinsville. In retirement he served numerous churches as interim pastor. He was active in church, community and civic organizations. He is survived by his wife, Inez Webb Rains; a daughter, Nora Rains Hall; two sons, Calvin E. Rains Jr. and Joseph A. Rains; five granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service was held Aug. 2 at First Church, Collinsville.

Mount Pleasant Church, Charles City; revival Aug. 20-23 with Susan Morris as guest evangelist. Gospel sing on Aug. 20 at 4 p.m.

New Chapel Church, Rustburg; revival Aug. 20-23; Roger Roller as guest evangelist.

Oak Grove Church, Cana; revival Aug. 20-23 with Wayne Moore as guest evangelist; homecoming on Aug. 27 with Louis Martin, guest speaker.

Oakland Church, Gum Spring; homecoming Aug. 20; revival Aug. 21-24 with Gabe Turner and David Burhans as guest evangelists.

Round Hill Church, King George; homecoming Aug. 20 with Jim White as guest speaker; covered-dish dinner after worship and gospel sing after dinner; revival Aug. 21-23 with Jim White as guest evangelist.

OTHER

Vicki G. Lumpkin of Bassett was recently endorsed as a chaplain by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. She is a chaplain and bereavement coordinator at Hospice of Rockingham County.

The 103rd annual meeting and celebration of the Woman's Missionary Union of Peninsula Association was held June 3 at Hampton Church. After the business meeting, the ladies did hands-on missions activities. No-bake cookies were made to take to the local fire station. Toiletry bags were assembled for a local women's and children's shelter. Note cards were hand-stamped and written to missionaries for their birthdays. A presentation of a memorial plaque was given by Amanda Sykes to Pat Wright, president of the associational WMU, to be displayed at the association's office.
