RETIREMENT
• Ernest G. Roebuck has retired as pastor of Calvary Church in Virginia Beach, after 23 years of ministry there and a total of 33 years in the ministry. He and his wife, Pam, were recently recognized by this congregation for their ministry there.
DEATHS
• O. P. Hatfield, retired pastor of Mountain Church, Bluemont, died Jan. 30 at the age of 69. He had also served as pastor of churches in Motley, Rhoadesville, and Alexandria. He was a member of the Shenandoah Baptist Association Pastors Conference. He is survived by his wife, Claudia Justice Hatfield; a daughter, Karen Gerardi; a son, Michael Wayne Hatfield; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held Feb. 2 at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home in Berryville.
• Retired Virginia Baptist pastor Donald N. Sheffield died Jan. 17 in Chesapeake at the age of 82. He was the retired minister of Green Lakes Church, Portsmouth, where he served for 33 years. He was past chairman of the board for Emily Green Shores and past secretary of the Portsmouth Association. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sharps Sheffield; and a son, John K. Sheffield. He is survived by two daughters, Sherrye S. Pollard and Donna S. Wallace; a son, David N. Sheffield; a brother; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral service was held on Jan. 22 at Churchland Church, Chesapeake.
EVENTS
• The Chamber Choir of Virginia Tech will be in concert Feb. 17 at 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Church, Franklin. The concert will be shared between The Chamber Choir (Brian Gendron, conductor) and The Franklin Community Choir (Steven R. Gibson, conductor).
• St. Paul's Church, Richmond, will host “Iron Sharpens Iron,” a one-day men's conference. Crawford Loritts, a nationally recognized motivator of men and Promise Keepers platform speaker, and Tom Joyce, a Navy fighter pilot instructor and survivor of 9/11, will be featured speakers. • The National Association of Baptists for Scouting will host a reunion of Baptist Scouters on April 11-13 at the ABS conference held at Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center in Talladega, Alabama. The theme is “The Reunion Continues” and its purpose is to start and improve scouting units in Baptist churches. MISSIONS MOMENT
Legacy Youth Ministries, the student group at Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston, chose the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center as its Christmas outreach project. The youth collected baby clothes and other supplies for the center that provides ministries for women with un-planned pregnancies.
