Death
David H. Huff Jr. died in Portsmouth on Oct. 22 at the age of 84. He directed music in churches in North Carolina and Virginia. He retired at the end of 1988 after serving Park View Church, Portsmouth, as minister of music for more than 26 years. Huff was a charter member of the Virginia Baptist Male Chorale. He is survived by his wife, Helen Stepp Huff; two sons, Don Edward and Bradford Dean Huff; a daughter, Carol Marie Cox; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held Oct. 25 at Park View Church, Portsmouth.
Ordination
Amanda Bray Barbour-Johnston, youth director at First Church, Martinsville, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on Nov. 12.
Church News
Bagby Memorial Church, Burkeville, held revival Nov. 12-15 with Richard Vinson, guest evangelist.
Second Church, Richmond, will host the Richmond Symphony Orchestra's performance of Handel's Messiah on Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for $25 at the church or by calling Bill Miller at 804-740-7101.
Wytheville Church, Wytheville, is the beneficiary of a bequest by Miss Norene Holston. The church will use the bequest for a projection system and facilities improvements. The church recognized Holston's bequest at a recent homecoming service. A bronze plaque will be placed outside the sanctuary in acknowledgement of the gift.
Associational News
True Word Christian Church was accepted into membership by Portsmouth Association at its annual fall meeting on Oct. 24. Charles “Chuck” Worth is pastor of this new church plant in Franklin.

The Lynchburg Downtown Historic Church Tour is Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. First Church, Lynchburg, is one of the seven churches on the historic tour. Tickets are $12 per adult and $5 per child and proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lynchburg area. For further information call Meals on Wheels at 434-847-0796.
Churches in transition
National Gardens Church in Falls Church will disband as of Dec. 31, 2006. Shining Star Community Church will continue at its location. Harry Cunningham, pastor of National Gardens for more than 11 years, will retire on Dec. 31.
Richmond Heights Church in Richmond held a memorial celebration service on Nov. 5 as it concluded its ministry. The service was held at Carlisle Avenue Church, Richmond. Steve Allsbrook, director of missions for Dover Association, and Howard Germany, pastor of Carlisle Avenue, led the service.
MISSION MOMENTS
Round Oak Baptist Church, Corbin
A team of 13 members from Round Oak Baptist Church went to Pascagoula, Mississippi, in August. They worked at St. Luke's Baptist Church repairing damage done to the church during Hurricane Katrina. The team replaced paneling and ceiling tiles in classrooms and doors throughout the building. They also found time for prayerwalking in the community.
