Laura T. Anderson has been named assistant executive director for the Chaplain Service of the Churches of Virginia.
The Chaplain Service, one of the Baptist General Association of Virginia's ministry partners, assigns chaplains to Virginia state prisons, correctional centers and juvenile correctional centers. Currently it has chaplains at 30 prisons and 17 juvenile correctional centers. Founded in 1920, it is supported by a variety of denominations.
Anderson, an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church, has been a principal in the state Department of Correctional Education, where she oversaw the educational program of three women's correctional centers.
In her new position, she will assist executive director Cecil McFarland in fundraising, maintaining relationships with denominational bodies and developing a newsletter.
