Outgoing Baylor University Provost Nancy Brickhouse has been named vice chancellor for academic and health affairs at Texas State University.
She was appointed to the post by TSU System Chancellor Brian McCall and will oversee academic planning and program review, research and health affairs across the system’s four universities and three state colleges.
TSU is based in San Marcos, Texas, which is located between Austin and San Antonio. The system spans seven campuses, including Sam Houston State University, Lamar University, Sul Ross University and TSU.
Brickhouse’s exit from Baylor was announced in April and came on the heels of controversy at the Baptist university over rejection of a grant from the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation to the School of Social Work, removal of the dean of the School of Social Work and controversy over a Turning Point USA event on campus.
Her last day as provost at Baylor was to be July 31. She is now slated to begin the new role in the TSU system Sept. 15.
A TSU news released said: “Brickhouse brings nearly 40 years of higher education experience to TSUS, most recently serving as vice president and provost at Baylor University. In this role, she oversaw the university’s 12 colleges and schools, research enterprise, libraries, museums, centers and institutes. During her seven years at Baylor, Brickhouse led the growth of graduate programs and elevated the university’s research and scholarship profile, enabling the institution to achieve Carnegie 1 Research status. Prior to that, she served as provost at Saint Louis University and in a variety of professorial and leadership roles during her 27 years at the University of Delaware.”
McCall, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Baylor, said Brickhouse’s “exceptional experience as an academic leader” will help the state-run system “strengthen its institutions and serve more students across Texas.”
At Baylor, an interim provost already has been named and a search process has begun for the provost position.
