DALLAS (ABP) — Ronald Edwards, president of the African-American Fellowship of Texas and pastor of Minnehulla Baptist Church in Goliad, Texas, died May 31.
Under Edwards' leadership, Minnehulla Baptist Church was known as a one of the leading missions churches in Texas. Last year, for instance, the congregation started the first African-American cowboy church.
Charlie Singleton, director of the BGCT's African-American Ministries, praised Edwards' commitment to Baptists and spreading the gospel.
“He was a strong and innovative leader,” Singleton said. “He stayed abreast of the issues. He never criticized Texas Baptists. He always looked for the positives and reached out to bring churches into the convention.”
Charles Wade, executive director of the BGCT, said Edwards was a vital part of Texas Baptist life.
“Ronald Edwards was an effective and generous-hearted leader,” Wade said. “He had a sense of humor that eased tension and a spirit that always pointed us to the future. Texas Baptists have lost an important leader. He was my friend, and I will miss him personally.”
