DEATH
• Dorothy Vernon Allport died April 23 at the age of 96. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Alexandria, Va., for 70 years. She was active in the Mount Vernon Baptist Association (now NorthStar Church Network) for many years. NorthStar established the Dorothy Allport Network Missions Offering in 2010 to commemorate her work and dedication. She is survived by a sister, Lucy Simpson. A funeral service was held April 29 at First Church, Alexandria.

• Millfield Baptist Church, Millfield, Va., will celebrate its 175th anniversary May 15, with James Flamming, retired pastor of First Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., as guest speaker. Following a covered-dish lunch, the afternoon program will feature a time of reflection.
EVENTS
• The Inclusion Mass Choir Festival featuring ecumenical church choirs from Richmond, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg, Va., will be held June 4-5 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Richmond, Va. • "Jesus Manifesto: Focusing on Jesus Christ in the 21st Century" is the theme of Gardner-Webb University’s 2011 Pastors’ School to be held May 30-June 1 at its campus in Boiling Springs, N.C. Leonard Sweet, author and teacher, will explore ways to restore the supremacy of Jesus in peoples’ lives and churches. Ron Williams, professor of religious studies since 1997 and a Pauline scholar, will lead Bible study centering on the Christology of Paul’s writings.
