EMPORIA — Muslim beliefs will be part of the focus of a one-day seminar on Islam presented at Main Street Baptist Church in Emporia on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Christians Look at Islam: Islam in the Midst of a Christian World” is the theme for this workshop. Leaders for the workshop will be George Braswell and Charles Beckett.
Braswell is a native of Emporia, a former missionary to Iran, a former professor of world religions at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and currently serves as Senior Professor of World Religions at the Campbell University Divinity School.
Beckett is the director of the Center for Christian Understanding of Islam in Richmond. He is a native of Chase City and has served as a missionary in what was then East Pakistan and now is known as Bangladesh. He maintains a center for the study of Islam teaching regular classes.
Registration forms are available from Main Street Baptist Church. Advance registration is required and must be in by February 15th. The cost of registration is $10 which includes the sessions, printed materials, and lunch at the church.
