On behalf of a grateful community and church, thank you for your ministry to the folks of Liberty, Texas, by Virginia Baptist disaster relief.
As soon as Hurricane Ike had passed Liberty and we started to survey the damage left behind, I prayed two prayers. One was a prayer of thanksgiving that the damage was not as bad as it could have been and the other was, “God, help us as a church love people through this time.”
Immediately it became apparent that we, as a church, were way in over our heads. How were we going to meet the growing needs of our community? Well, as usual, God had the situation well in hand and our prayers were answered when Virginia Baptist disaster relief arrived on the scene.
Three weeks and 100,000 meals later, Liberty is returning to a sense of normalcy. It's what we call the “new normal,” because in some ways our community will never be the same. In some ways First Baptist Church of Liberty will never be the same. We have a new sense of identity, unity and mission, and understand better than ever the provision of God. Virginia Baptists were part of that provision and an answer to my prayer.
To all the volunteers that invested a part of their lives here in Liberty, you will never know how much your friendship means to us. To Virginia Baptists, thank you!
