STAFF CHANGES

Jim Bell, to American Baptist Churches USA International Ministries, as associate executive director.

Kerrie Clayton, concluding her tenure as minister of music at First Baptist Church, Smithfield, N.C.

Tamike Jones, to Woman’s Missionary Union of Texas, as executive director.

Nancy Stanton McDaniel, to Westhunt Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., as interim minister of music.

Keith Ross, to Missouri Baptist University, St. Louis, Mo., as president, effective Jan. 10. Currently he is the university’s vice president of advancement.

Walter Satchell, serving as associate pastor of pastoral care at First Baptist Church, Newport News, Va., effective January 1. For the past 11 years he has been associate pastor of administration.

Marsha Scipio, to American Baptist Churches USA, Office of the General Secretary, as associate general secretary for missional initiatives and partnerships.

Michael B. Sisson, to the West Virginia Baptist Association, as executive minister, effective April 1. Currently he is pastor of Crab Orchard (W. Va.) Baptist Church.

Kevin Walden, to American Baptist Churches USA, Office of the General Secretary, as associate general secretary for congregational and pastoral effectiveness.

Candice Young, to Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta, Ga., as communications director. Previously she was marketing manager for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. 

RETIREMENTS

Anita Ambrose, retiring as pastor of First Welsh Baptist Church, Plymouth, Pa., where she has served for 25 years.

Brigadier General Doyle D. Don Broome Jr., retiring after 12 years as president of Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, Va.

ORDINATION

Sylveta Brown, Tanai White, Lela Harris and Ryan Wise, ordained to ministry on Nov. 19 by Metropolitan Baptist Church, Largo, Md.

DEATHS

Garney J. Day, 79, died Nov. 8 in Rocky Mount, Va. He had served as pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Thaxton, Va., and Springwood Baptist Church, Buchanan, Va. He was co-pastor of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church, Troutville, Va., and the founding pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Boones Mill, Va. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; son, Timothy; and grandson, Christopher Wright. He is survived by his children, Beth Edwards, James Day, Jathan Day, Nia Davis, David Wright, Mark Wright, Lisa Black; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dan A. Ray, died Nov. 11 in Greer, S.C. He was a Baptist minister for more than 60 years serving as pastor of Sylvia Circle Baptist Church, Rock Hill, S.C.; Palo Verde Baptist Church, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Bethel Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C. He served as director of missions for the Beaverdam Baptist Association in Oconee County, S.C., director of evangelism and stewardship for the Pennsylvania/South Jersey Baptist Convention in Harrisburg, Pa., and director of stewardship and Cooperative Program development for the South Carolina Baptist Convention. After retirement he served as interim pastor for several churches, including Rocky Hill Baptist Church, Cedar Mountain, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Martha; sons, Alan, Barry and Andy;  daughter, Robin Ray Crusco; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
