President Donald Trump — hailed by his supporters for “bringing faith back to the White House” — spent Easter Sunday on the golf course and blasting his enemies on social media.
“Happy Easter to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting and scheming so hard to bring Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters, back into our Country,” began his message on Truth Social Sunday morning.
For those not using Trump’s own social media platform, Elon Musk’s X has begun republishing Trump’s posts on its platform too.
The rest of Trump’s Easter morning message reads:
Happy Easter also to the WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials who are allowing this sinister attack on our Nation to continue, an attack so violent that it will never be forgotten! Sleepy Joe Biden purposefully allowed Millions of CRIMINALS to enter our Country, totally unvetted and unchecked, through an Open Borders Policy that will go down in history as the single most calamitous act ever perpetrated upon America. He was, by far, our WORST and most Incompetent President, a man who had absolutely no idea what he was doing — But to him, and to the person that ran and manipulated the Auto Pen (perhaps our REAL President!), and to all of the people who CHEATED in the 2020 Presidential Election in order to get this highly destructive Moron Elected, I wish you, with great love, sincerity, and affection, a very Happy Easter!!!
Earlier in the week, Trump’s evangelical supporters hailed him as the great defender of Easter as a Christian holy day because of a brief video he made extolling the religious nature of the day. In that 49-second video, Trump reads stiffly from a teleprompter and says:
On Easter Sunday, we celebrate his glorious resurrection and proclaim, as Christians have done for nearly 2,000 years, he has risen. Through the pain and sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross we saw God’s boundless love and devotion to all humanity and in that moment of his resurrection, history was forever changed with the promise of everlasting life. As we approach this joyous Easter Sunday, I want to wish Christians everywhere a happy and beautiful and blessed holiday. America is a nation of believers. We need God. We want God. And with his help we will make our nation stronger, safer, greater and more prosperous and much more united than ever before. Thank you to everyone and have a really happy Easter.
There is no evidence Trump has attended a Sunday morning church service anywhere since his inauguration Jan. 20. It appears the last time he was inside a church for a service was on Jan. 21 at Washington National Cathedral, where Bishop Mariann Budde famously urged the new president to “show mercy” to those who are afraid and targeted by his administration’s policies.
Spiritual adviser Paula White, however, is holding spiritual events inside the White House in which supportive clergy are invited to participate. White is a health-and-wealth televangelist who was selling “seven Easter blessings” to anyone who donated $1,000 to her.
Despite Trump’s screed against his enemies on Easter morning, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council later that same day put out his own tweet lauding the president’s faith: “This is the Sunday that makes Christianity what it is. We have a Savior — Jesus Christ — who died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead. President Trump’s Easter proclamation today shows the difference an election can make. This @WhiteHouse champions religious freedom.”
Not all Christians were so enamored with Trump’s Easter greetings.
Ex-evangelical leader Shane Claiborne tweeted: “This is Trump’s Easter message. Someone tell him — Easter is about Jesus. It is the day Christ rose from the dead. Trump-evangelicalism is a cult. You cannot serve two masters. Follow Jesus … not Trump. Christ is King. Donald Trump is not. Hallelujah!”
An anti-Trump X account called PatriotTakes tweeted: “Trump’s Easter message fails to mention Jesus, the cross, the resurrection, forgiveness, peace, joy, or any other Easter message. Instead, he attacked his political opponents, migrants, judges, law enforcement, and rambled about himself and his grievances.”
Other Trump supporters continued to air their grievance against former President Joe Biden because last year Transgender Day of Visibility fell on Easter Sunday (it is a set date on the calendar and Easter moves around). Biden was excoriated by evangelicals for calling attention to a group of people they don’t believe exist.
Trump activist Riley Gaines tweeted Sunday afternoon — again, after Trump’s message to his enemies — “Last year, Biden declared Easter as ‘transgender day of visibility.’ This year, Trump emphasizes the promise of everlasting life through Jesus’ sacrifice. Not the same.”
This is not the first time Trump has used a major Christian holiday to taunt his enemies.
On Christmas Day 2023, Trump sent out this message:
Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNT against “TRUMP” and “MAGA.” Included also are World Leaders, both good and bad, but none of which are as evil and “sick” as the THUGS we have inside our Country who, with their Open Borders, INFLATION, Afghanistan Surrender, Green New Scam, High Taxes, No Energy Independence, Woke Military, Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Iran, All Electric Car Lunacy, and so much more, are looking to destroy our once great USA. MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
