TV news producer named news director for Ky. Baptist paper

NewsABPnews  |  May 23, 2007

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABP) — Drew Nichter has been named news director of the Western Recorder, a Baptist newspaper in Louisville, Ky. He started in his new role May 16.

Nichter, 30, succeeds David Winfrey, who resigned after 10 years to accept a position as a marketing strategist for Mercer Human Resources Consulting.

In 2004, Nichter became associate director and news producer of WAVE 3 TV in Louisville.

“I am pleased to have someone with Drew's ability and creativity to join the Western Recorder staff,” said Trennis Henderson, the paper's editor. “I look forward to his fresh perspective and insights as we continue to produce a quality publication with a strong Kentucky Baptist focus.”

A graduate of Indiana University Southeast, Nichter was assistant editor of the university's campus newspaper. He was named the school's outstanding journalism student and earned the top sports-writing award in the 2005 Indiana Collegiate Press Association competition. He also attended the University of the Cumberlands.

Nichter said his goal as news director is to maintain the reputation of the paper as an “instrument of advancing God's kingdom here on earth.”

“I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to be a part of the Western Recorder staff,” Nichter said. “This newspaper has such a long and reputable tradition that to even be considered for this position is an honor.”

Nichter and his wife, Sarah, are members of Crestwood Baptist Church in Oldham County. They are the parents of an 8-month-old daughter.
