VBHS offers new historical resources

NewsReligious Herald  |  November 7, 2007

RICHMOND — Two new historical resources will be released on Nov. 13 by the Virginia Baptist Historical Society and Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies.

God's Stories: An Illustrated History of Baptists in Virginia covers 300 years of Baptist history in Virginia through beautiful illustrations created by artist Sidney E. King and through a text of stories and history written by Fred Anderson. Over a five-year period Sidney E. King painted scenes for the Virginia Baptist History Mural which graces the Heritage Gallery of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society's headquarters at the University of Richmond. The paintings and the text bring to life the stories of how God moves among the people known as the Baptists of Virginia. God's Stories also includes an up-to-date history of the Baptist General Association of Virginia and the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, which has not been updated since a 1969 publication.

Dedicated to Alma Hunt, God's Stories was created through a generous grant from the Virginia Baptist Foundation and is available for $35. With over 250 pages of text and the 36 King paintings in full color, God's Stories is an oversized book and a resource to help share Baptist heritage and stories for families and churches. Please add $3 for shipping and handling. God's Stories will be available at a special reduced price of $25 at the BGAV annual meeting, November 13-14, in Richmond.

In addition, God's Stories for Children, a 40-page children's resource, also was created which includes an additional 12 images from graphic illustrator Jonathan Koelsch. Through the text provided by Fred Anderson, children will be captivated by inspirational stories, engaged in active learning and immersed in Baptist heritage. The children's publication highlights three themes of Virginia Baptists: religious liberty, missions and cooperation.

God's Stories for Children is available for $5 for a single copy and compliments the 250+ page resource, God's Stories: An Illustrated History of Baptists in Virginia. Please add $2 for shipping and handling. Children's ministers and teachers will want to secure multiple copies at the reduced rate of $3 each. Please add 50 cents per copy for shipping and handling.

Please secure copies of these two beautifully illustrated resources for your church or family today by contacting the Virginia Baptist Historical Society, Box 34, University of Richmond, VA 23173. You may also contact via telephone at 804-289-8434.
