RICHMOND — The Baptist Association of Christian Educators recently awarded its Educator of the Year award to Lucy Dorr, long-time Virginia Baptist educator.
A graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., Dorr has served in children’s ministry in six Virginia churches — First Baptist, Petersburg; Bayside Baptist, Virginia Beach; Woodlawn Baptist, Hopewell; First Baptist, Richmond; Bon Air Baptist, Richmond; and currently, Winfree Memorial Baptist, Midlothian.
She has made generous leadership contributions to numerous ASSIST teams, Vacation Bible School state and associational teams, six METRO campaigns, Bible Drill teams, WMU consultant and Sunday School consultant in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Missouri and Kentucky.
When accepting her award, Dorr shared how a Vacation Bible School teacher visited her unchurched family. Through that VBS, she and her family became followers of Jesus Christ. That legacy has been carried on through her six children and 14 grandchildren.
Membership of the BACE consists of persons involved in, interested in or retired from the ministry of Christian education.
