 Fannin

Fannin

New professor at BTSR. Coleman Fannin has joined the staff of Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond as visiting professor in theology and ethics. He will hold the position during the sabbatical leave of Elizabeth Newman, professor of theology. Fannin is completing a doctor of philosophy degree in theology at the University of Dayton (Ohio). He also holds degrees from the University of Georgia, Baylor University and Baylor's Truett Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Jordan, are members of First Baptist Church in Dayton.

Heritage Center seeks applicants. The Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies seeks applicants for the 2009-10 class of Heritage Fellows. The Heritage Fellows program offers Baptist students an opportunity to study an aspect of Baptist life and meet Baptist leaders. Heritage Fellows research a project to be published at the end of the academic year. The topic for this year is peace and justice issues in Baptist life. Heritage Fellows must be Baptist sophomores or juniors by the fall term of 2009 enrolled at Virginia colleges or universities with recognized Baptist campus ministry aligned with the Baptist General Association of Virginia. Fellows also will be actively engaged in religious activities on campus or in a local church. The applicant also must have an overall grade of B or above or grade point average of 3.0 or above at the time of application. The deadline for application to the program is March 15. Heritage Fellows receive a stipend of $1,500 per semester for a total of $3,000 for the year. For more information or to apply contact the Center at www.baptistheritage.org or at (804) 289-8434.

BTSR honors volunteers. Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond is expressing gratitude to Ruth Guill and 25 other volunteers who have donated almost 3,300 hours of time to the seminary since last August. “We have been so fortunate to have such a dedicated and delightful group of volunteers,” said Ron Crawford, BTSR president. “We are indebted to Ruth for her work in pulling together this wonderful, hard-working group of folks. And it's an added benefit to have Ruth's can-do spirit invade this special workforce.” Once given a task, Guill quickly and effectively gets the job done. “Where there's a need, I want to serve,” she says. She faithfully served Weatherford Memorial Baptist Church in Richmond for more than 60 years and coordinated the volunteer workforce at the Virginia Baptist Mission Board for many years. While her complete list currently has close to 70 volunteers, Guill says she's always looking for more to participate. “We're always looking for more folks to join in. We need more help.” Persons interested in volunteering at BTSR may contact the seminary at (804) 355-8135.

Crisis care training. Training as a crisis care chaplain will be offered by the Virginia Baptist Mission Board April 29-31 at the Virginia Baptist Resource Center in Richmond. The cost is $100, which includes conference materials, shirt, hat and disaster relief ID. To register, contact Jeannette Hildebrand at [email protected] or at (804) 915-5000 or (800) 255-2428.
