Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia is focusing on a series of recommendations provided by an ad hoc committee in December, according to a statement released this week by Laura McDaniel, interim executive director of WMUV.
The board of trustees of WMUV received and accepted the report of the ad hoc committee on Dec. 2.
“As a result, we have been focusing on the following areas,” said the statement:
• Clarifying our mission: This area will require input and assistance from WMU members across the state. We will be looking for ways to hear from as many people as possible about how they are involved or would like to become involved in missions and how WMUV can help them.
• Communication: We will continue to look for ways to better communicate the mission and program of WMUV widely and publicly, as well as communicating the workings of WMUV to the [WMUV] advisory board.
• Personnel: We are working to establish or improve policies to provide:
• A clearly defined organizational structure
• Complete and accurate job descriptions for all WMUV employees
• An effective performance appraisal system
• A clear procedure for tracking sick leave, recovery days, vacation, etc.
• Procedures for reprimands, terminations, and exit interviews
• A grievance procedure that is available to all employees.
• Finances: The board of trustees is becoming increasingly involved in the budget process, including the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions allocations.
• Organizational structure: We are considering ways to increase the effectiveness of the organizational structure.
• Constitution, bylaws and policies: As we make changes that need to be reflected in our constitution, bylaws, and policies, we intend to update the entire documents to ensure that they are complete and accurate.
