STAFF CHANGES

Tim Adcox, concluding his tenure as minister of missions at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, Stone Mountain, Ga., to become executive director of Heart of a Champion Sports.

Roy E. Ciampa, to Samford University, Birmingham, Ala., as chair of the department of religion and S. Louis and Ann W. Armstrong professor of religion, effective Aug. 20. Currently he is manager of biblical scholarship and integrated training for the Nida Institute for Biblical Scholarship at American Bible Society, Philadelphia, Pa.

Roger Crump, to Powers Memorial Baptist Church, Hopewell, Va., as pastor.

Jody Faig, to the Baptist General Association of Virginia, as field strategist for the Northern region.

Leighton Flowers, to Baptist General Convention of Texas, as evangelism team leader.

Bob Fox, to Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Kentucky, as coordinator, effective April 16. He is pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Georgetown, Ky.

Leigh Halverson, to Vineville Baptist Church, Macon, Ga., as minister of family life and education. She comes from First Baptist Church, Huntsville, Ala., where she is minister to children.

Martha Haigler, now serving as interim director of pastoral care at Providence Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C.

Brett Holmes, to Azalea Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va., as pastor.

Glenn Jones, to Angier (N.C.) Baptist Church, as interim pastor.

Chip Northup, to First Baptist Church, Hope Valley, R.I., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of Calvary Baptist Church, Warren, Pa.

Sherry Shaw, to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C., as minister to children and their families.

RETIREMENTS

Jim Ailor, retiring as field strategist for the Northern region for the Baptist General Association of Virginia.

Fred Andrea, retiring after nearly 25 years as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Aiken, S.C.

Frank Broome, retiring after 20 years as executive coordinator of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Georgia.

Vicky McCullough, retiring after 22 years as director of children’s ministries at First Baptist Church, Aiken, S.C.

William Turner Jr., retiring as James T. and Alice Mead Cleland Professor of the Practice of Preaching at Duke Divinity School, Durham, N.C.

David Wheeler, retiring as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Portland, Oregon.

ORDINATIONS

Drew Bongiovanni, ordained to ministry on April 8 by Glendale Baptist Church, Nashville, Tenn.

Jason Van Smith, ordained to ministry by Towne View Baptist Church, Kennesaw, Ga.

DEATHS

David Earl Potts, 67, died March 28 in Birmingham, Ala. He was president of Judson College, Marion, Ala., for 27 years. He was a founding board member of Sowing Seeds of Hope and a former president of Alabama Possible. He is survived by his wife, Beth; daughters, Kristin Helton and Shannon Potts; and eight grandchildren.

George J. Spencer, 86, died April 4 in Penn Yan, N.Y. He was ordained to ministry in Iowa by the Mid-American Baptist Churches and gave 42 years to rural church ministry in 10 churches in five states. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Jeremy and Jonathan; daughter, Sarah Yoder; and four grandchildren.

Ronald E. Vallet, 88, died April 8 in Syracuse, N.Y. He was pastor at numerous churches in New York. A gifted leader in stewardship, he served in that capacity with American Baptist Churches of New York State, American Baptist Churches USA, the National Council of Churches and the Ecumenical Stewardship Center. He was predeceased by two children. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie; daughters, Heather Richards and Kristen Vallet; a son, Ronald; and 10 grandchildren.

Nancy Elizabeth “Beth” Rector Wright, 73, died March 28 in Littleton, Colo. She had served as pastor of Adams Grove Baptist Church, Emporia, Va., and on the staff of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, Richmond, Va. She is survived by a daughter; two sons; and several grandchildren.

Todd Bradbury, 5 years as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Midlothian, Va.

Duane Brooks, 20 years as pastor of Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.

Darrell Cook, 20 years as campus minister for Baptist Collegiate Ministries at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., a ministry of the Baptist General Association of Virginia.

Monty Bennett, 5 years as director of music at Park Road Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C.
