STAFF CHANGES

Marcia Bailey, to First Baptist Church, Pottstown, Pa., as acting pastor.

David Goddard, to First Baptist Church, Temple, Texas, as discipleship and family pastor.

Becky Jackson, to Northwest Baptist Church, Ardmore, Okla., as pastor.

Mary Kaylor, now serving as program manager for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina. Previously she was minister to children and families at First Baptist Church, Memphis, Tenn.

Rodney Kennedy, to Upper Merion Baptist Church, King of Prussia, Pa., as interim pastor.

Doyle Lowry, to Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, as minister of discipleship and education. He comes from First Baptist Church, Denton, Texas, where he was executive pastor.

Roy Marshall, to First Baptist Church, Woodway, Texas, as minister of pastoral care.

John Pine, to First Baptist Church, Hollidaysburg, Pa., as pastor.

Bryson Allen Schultz, to First Baptist Church, Laurens, S.C., as associate music minister.

Sarah Stewart, to First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, Okla., as senior pastor. Since 2008 she has served as its minister for young adults.

Bryce Williams, to First Baptist Church, Easley, S.C., as minister to students and families.

 

RETIREMENT

David Maness, retiring as minister of music at Upper Merion Baptist Church, King of Prussia, Pa., where he has served since 1971.

 

ORDINATIONS

Michael Dickinson, ordained to ministry on Oct. 21 by First Baptist Church, Hingham, Mass.

 

 

DEATHS

Dale A. Brittain, 73, died Oct. 18 in Kokomo, Ind. He was a minister for over 20 years, serving the United Baptist Church, Forest, Ind., for 18 years. He is predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Carrie Ray, Kelly Fine and Heather Brittain; two step-daughters, Christina Williams and Cindy Jernagan; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Roy J. Smith, 89, died Oct. 18 in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was executive director-treasurer for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina for 13 years. He joined the BSC in 1962 as an area missionary, assisting small churches in western North Carolina. In retirement he was active in leadership of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; three children, Ginger Graves, Roy Smith Jr. and Tracy Smith; two step-children; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Van Wheeler, 92, died Oct. 17 in South Hill, Va. He had served as pastor of Sandford Memorial Baptist Church, Broadnax, Va., and director of missions for the Concord Baptist Association. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He is survived by a son, Frank; daughter, Cheryl Wheeler; and four grandchildren.

Hank Ellington, 25 years as associate pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Lexington, Ky.

Carrie Beth Tonks, 25 years as minister of childhood education at Calvary Baptist Church, Lexington, Ky.

John Whitten, 10 years as lead pastor of The Gathering at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas.

Community Baptist Church of Gayhead, Aquinnah, Mass.; 325 years; Oct. 21.

Oak Ridge (Tenn.) Baptist Church; 75 years; Oct. 9.
