STAFF CHANGES

Joshua David Franklin, to Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Glen Allen, Va., as senior pastor. He comes from the pastorate of Good Hope Baptist Church, Cary, N.C.

Debbie Kelsey, to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Utica, N.Y., as pastor.

Tom Ingram, to Gayton Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., as worship arts interim choir director.

Mary Langley, to Wake Forest (N.C.) Baptist Church, as minister to children and families.

Julie Jenkins Marshall, to Bagby Memorial Baptist Church, Burkeville, Va., as pastor.

Tom Ogburn, to Westwood Baptist Church, Cary, N.C., as senior pastor. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tenn.

Luke Overstreet, concluding his tenure as minister to youth and children at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va.

Steve Shoemaker, to Grace Baptist Church, Statesville, N.C., as senior pastor.

Matt Walton, to South Main Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, as minister of discipleship. He comes from Southland Baptist Church, San Angelo, Texas, where he served as associate pastor for missions and spiritual formation.

 

 

DEATHS

John H. Burney, 105, died Sept. 23 in Ironton, Mo. In 1936 he accepted a job as secretary and bookkeeper at the Baptist Home in Ironton, Mo. In 1955 he became superintendent of the Baptist Home and served until 1974. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys, and daughter, Ruth Ann. He is survived by children, Jeannette Ashley and John Tyler.

Robert “Bob” Wayne, 87, died Sept. 30 in Vinton, Va. He was pastor of churches in Kentucky, Indiana and Virginia, most recently Lynn Haven Baptist Church in Vinton. He served on staff of the Baptist conventions of each of these three states, retiring from the Baptist General Association of Virginia. He is predeceased by his wife, Lois. He is survived by two daughters, Susan W. Griffin and Ruth W. Willis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gary Furr, 25 years as pastor of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala.

Danny L. Langley, 20 years as senior pastor of Crosspointe Meadows Church, Novi, Mich.

Will Thompson, 30 years as associate pastor of worship at First Baptist Church, Arkadelphia, Ark.

Al Travis, 40 years as organist at Broadway Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas.
