DEATHS
David W. Adkins, 71, died Sept. 14 in Stephens City, Va. For 38 years he was pastor of Starling Avenue Baptist Church, Martinsville, Va. He was active in regional, state and national Baptist organizations, serving in various capacities with the Henry County Baptist Association, the Baptist General Association of Virginia and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, Diane; two daughters, Kristin A. Whitesides and Katie A. Brennan; and two grandchildren.
Willie Leroy “Billy” Roberts, 78, died Sept. 13 in Alapaha, Ga. He was a retired minister having served as pastor of Lax Baptist Church in Irwin County, Ga.; Maranatha Baptist Church, Plains, Ga.; Cecil Baptist Church, Hahira, Ga.; Knights Memorial Baptist Church, Lakeland, Ga., and Ruth Forrester and Hebron Baptist churches. He is survived by his wife, Clarice; two sons, Stanley and Phillip; and five grandchildren.
Allen W. Scott, 95, died Aug. 2 in East Lyme, Conn. He is the retired pastor of Flanders Baptist and Community Church in East Lyme, serving there for 38 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Watson; three sons, MacKenzie, Alan and Jonathan; and 10 grandchildren.
