Jonathan L. Walton, to Wake Forest University, as dean of the School of Divinity. He currently is Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at the Harvard Divinity School. He is Pusey Minister of Memorial Church, Harvard’s house of worship.
Aidsand Wright-Riggins, to New Baptist Covenant, as co-executive director. He served as executive director of the American Baptist Home Mission Society for 24 years and pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Los Angeles, Calif., from mid-1980s to 1991.
RETIREMENTS
Jerry Cauley, retiring as associate pastor for music ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Alexandria, La., effective July 1. He has served there since 1990.
Susan Cauley, retiring as associate pastor for congregational care at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Alexandria, La., effective July 1. She has served there since 1990.
Armand Jalbert, retiring as pastor of Newsoms (Va.) Baptist Church.
Sarah Shelton, retiring as pastor of Baptist Church of the Covenant, Birmingham, Ala.
ORDINATIONS
Eric Fulcher, ordained to gospel ministry on April 28 by Hunton Baptist Church, Glen Allen, Va., where he serves as associate pastor.
Jared Jaggers, ordained to gospel ministry on April 28 by Wilshire Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas, where he is a pastoral resident.
Christine Shrade-Keddy, ordained to ministry on April 28 by First Baptist Church, Westwood, Mass.
DEATHS
Alden Lee Hicks, 86, died April 16 in Farmville, Va. He was pastor of numerous churches during his ministry. For 11 years he was director of missions of the Pittsylvania Baptist Association. He served on the staff of the Baptist General Association of Virginia and was interim director of missions for the Southside Baptist Association. He is survived by his wife, Anne; daughters Leanne Terry and Teresa Schuster; son, Jon; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Denton Lotz, 80, died April 23 in Forestdale, Mass. A former American Baptist missionary who taught at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Switzerland, he became evangelism director of the Baptist World Alliance in 1980. He became deputy general secretary in 1985 and was appointed as general secretary in 1988 and served until his retirement in 2007. Afterward he served as pastor of Tremont Temple Baptist Church, Boston, Mass., for 11 years. He is survived by his wife, Janice; three children; and numerous grandchildren.
Paul Nagano, 98, died April 13 in Los Angeles, Calif. He was appointed first director of Asian Ministries at the American Baptist Home Mission Societies in 1975. He was a key founder of the Asian American Baptist Caucus, now known as the Alliance of Asian American Baptist Churches. He founded the Japanese Evangelical Missionary Society, Los Angeles, Calif., and Council for Asian Pacific Theology, Berkley, Calif. He served as pastor of Makiki Christian Church, Honolulu; Japanese Baptist Church, Seattle, Wash.; and First Baptist Church, Oakland, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Florence Emiko Wake; two sons, Jim and Steve; daughter, Janet; and one granddaughter.
