STAFF CHANGES

Matt Caine, to Myers Park Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C., as minister of music and worship, effective May 12.

Alice Cates Clarke, to Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., as associate pastor for missions and youth, effective in May. She comes from Chester (Va.) Baptist Church, where she served as minister of youth.

Don Durham, to First Baptist Church, Mocksville, N.C., as interim pastor, effective in June.

Robert “Bob” Huff, to Westville Baptist Church, Mathews, Va., as pastor.

Jim Irwin, to First Baptist Church, Oswego, Kansas, as pastor.

Steve Layton, to Riverchase Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala., as senior pastor. He comes from Brentwood (Tenn.) Baptist Church, where he serves as discipleship minister.

Barry Lipscomb Jr., to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Wichita, Kansas, as pastor.

Richard Lively, now serving as pastor of First Baptist Church, Cocoa, Fla. Previously he was interim pastor.

Ryan Mills, to First Baptist Church, Hillsville, Va., as pastor.

Shirley Womble, concluding her tenure as minister of children, families and church administration at Masonboro Baptist Church, Wilmington, N.C.
 

DEATHS

Norman N. Burnes III, 81, died April 8 in Richmond, Va. He was pastor of churches in North Carolina and Virginia before he and his wife, Kathryn, were appointed in 1972 by the SBC’s International Mission Board as missionaries to Israel and later Greece. In 1980 he returned to the states and served at the International Mission Board and later the IMB’s Missionary Learning Center. In retirement he was senior associate pastor for Bon Air Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., where he had been a member for 39 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ann B. Roper; two sons, Norman IV and Robert; and three grandchildren.

Barker Hardison, 102, died April 8 in Springfield, Va. For 37 years he was pastor of Westover Baptist Church, Arlington, Va. He was the organizing pastor of Knollwood Baptist Church, Burke, Va. In retirement he was interim pastor of eight Northern Virginia churches. He was active in the Baptist General Association of Virginia, serving as president in 1972 and on numerous boards and committees. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois. He is survived by two sons, William Jr. and Richard; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Burton D. Huth, died April 6 in Johnson City, N.Y. He was an ordained minister for over 60 years, serving as pastor of Spencer Federated Church, Spencer, N.Y., for 24 years. He is survived by his wife, Florence; and a son, Jonathan.

William “Woody” Noblitt, 76, died April 5, in Muncie, Ind. He served as pastor of four American Baptist Churches: The Union Church of Quincy, Mich.; Calvary Baptist Church, Youngstown, Ohio; First Baptist Church, Davison, Mich.; and First Baptist Church, Muncie, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Glenda; daughter, Laura Williamson; son, Lorent; and four grandchildren.
