Recent church staff changes, anniversaries, ordinations and deaths within the moderate and progressive Baptist network.

STAFF CHANGES

Jillian Andrzejewski, to Westhunt Baptist Church, Henrico, Va., as pastor, effective Sept. 3.

Kimberly Braine-Tillem, concluding her tenure as minister of children and families at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Glen Allen, Va.

Ashley Boschen, concluding her tenure as minister to children at Shalom Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, Va.

Bob Collins, to Gwathmey Baptist Church, Ashland, Va., as intentional interim pastor.

Jamie Cosley, to Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, Va., as minister of contemporary worship.

Carla Dillard, to Cornerstone Christian Church, Henrico, Va., as pastor.

Mark Frye, to Park Road Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C., as director of music and organist, effective Sept. 18. He comes from St. James Lutheran Church, Concord, N.C., where he was director of music.

Leah Grundset Davis, to Ravensworth Baptist Church, Annandale, Va., as full-time pastor, effective Nov. 1.

Drew Herring, to West Main Baptist Church, Danville, Va., as pastor. He comes from Broadway Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas, where he served as pastor of adult education and outreach.

Carl Monfalcone, to Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, Va., as interim minister of traditional worship.

Jennifer Schneider, to American Baptist Churches of the Central Region, as associate executive minister, effective Oct. 1. She currently serves as president of its Minister’s Council and has served three congregations in the region.

David Schwoebel, concluding his tenure after nearly 23 years as minister of music and composer in residence at Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, Va.

 

RETIREMENTS

Steve Hyde, retiring as pastor of Ravensworth Baptist Church, Annandale, Va., effective Oct. 31.

James Wooten, retiring as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Beaufort, S.C.

 

ORDINATIONS

Tarsha Banister, ordained to ministry on July 25 by Union Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Daniel Ripley, ordained to ministry on August 11 by Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, Richmond, Va.

 

DEATHS

Paul Mitchell Sorrells, 83, died Aug. 1 in Shelby, N.C. He was pastor of First Baptist Church, Grover, N.C., and Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Shelby, N.C. He served as interim pastor for numerous churches. He taught at Young Harris College, Marrs Hill and Gardner-Webb Universities and concluded his teaching career at Fruitland Baptist Bible College. He is survived by his wife, June; three daughters, Michelle Hamilton, Joanna Runyon and Lisa Trexler; and six grandchildren.

John Townsend, 62, died July 11 in Redlands, Calif. He served in numerous churches during his ministry, including for 30 years as pastor of First Baptist Church, Los Angeles, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Carol; and daughters, Alecia and Marcet.
