STAFF CHANGES

Faria Armstrong, to First Baptist Church, Burlington, N.C., as associate pastor to youth and families.

Paul Bass, to University Heights Baptist Church, Springfield, Mo., as senior adult minister.

Randy Clipp, to Olive Chapel Baptist Church, Apex, N.C., as senior pastor. Previously he was interim pastor of Warrenton (N.C.) Baptist Church.

Richard Cobb, to the Church at Wieuca, Atlanta, Ga., as minister of worship arts and pastoral care. Previously he served as director of the Resonance Initiative in Indianapolis, Ind.

Kevin Collison, to New Covenant Baptist Church, Deland, Fla., as interim pastor.

Rebecca Driscoll, to First Baptist Church, Attleboro, Mass., as pastor.

Tom Gaskins, to Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., as interim pastor.

David Goatley, to Fuller Seminary, Pasadena, Calif., as president, effective Jan. 3. He comes from Duke Divinity School, Durham, N.C., where he is associate dean for academic and vocational formation, research professor of theology and Christian ministry and director of the Office of Black Church Studies.

Garrett Hager, to First Baptist Church, Copperas Cove, Texas, as minister of discipleship.

Jeremy Hall, concluding his tenure as associate pastor for faith development at Towne View Baptist Church, Kennesaw, Ga.

Weston Henderson, to Pelham Road Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C., as minister to families, youth and children.

Joseph Hopkins, to Campbellsville (Ky.) University, as president. He comes from Samford University, Birmingham, Ala., where he was dean of the school of arts.

Andrea Huffman, to Dayspring Baptist Church, St. Louis, Mo., as senior pastor. She is pastoral resident at Second Baptist Church, Liberty, Mo.

Jordan Humler, to First Baptist Church, Boone, N.C., as associate pastor.

Curtis Jones, to University Heights Baptist Church, Springfield, Mo., as associate pastor.

Tim Marsh, to First Baptist Church, Laurens, S.C., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton, N.C.

Brett Pardue, to Oxford (N.C.) Baptist Church, as pastor. He comes from Rolesville (N.C.) Baptist Church, where he was minister of music and outreach.

Nicole Patteson, to Monument Heights Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., as pastor of children and youth.

Heather Seiber, to First Baptist Church, College Station, Texas, as music minister.

Tony Stang, to Central Baptist Church, Springfield, Ill., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Winchester, Ky.

Stephen Summers, to Northside Baptist Church Victoria, Texas, as worship leader.

Tony Tench, to Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Shelby, N.C., as interim pastor.

Heather Twibell, to University Heights Baptist Church, Springfield, Mo., as children’s minister.

 

RETIREMENTS

Jane Gibbons, retiring as minister for program and ministry development for the American Baptist Churches of Ohio, effective Jan. 1.

Randy Martin, retiring as senior pastor of Preston Oaks Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va.

Lawrence “Lon” Schreiber, retiring after 22 years as organist and choirmaster of First Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.

 

ORDINATIONS

Michelle Carroll, ordained to ministry on Aug. 28 by First Baptist Church, Frankfort, Ky., where she is associate pastor of missions.

Jason Givens, ordained to ministry on Sept. 4 by First Baptist Church, Pensacola, Fla., where he serves as director of contemporary worship.

Melinda Parry, ordained to ministry on Sept. 18 by First Parish Congregational Church, Wakefield, Mass.

Kelly Pierce, ordained to ministry on Sept. 11 by Peoples Baptist Church, Boston, Mass. She is an American Baptist missionary in the Dominican Republic.

 

DEATHS

Kevin Carter, 56, died August 28 in Fredericksburg, Va. He served as associate pastor of churches in Frankfort, Ky., Chesterfield, Va., Winchester, Va., and Fredericksburg, Va. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; sons, Kaleb and Kollin.

William S. Khalil, 87, died Aug. 11 in Richmond, Va. He was the founding pastor of Arabic Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., (formerly Middle Eastern Baptist Church). He is survived by his wife, Saneye; and children, Edna, Evelyn and Edward.

Elim Kimbol, 92, died Aug. 29 in Marshall, Texas. He was the founding director of Texas Baptists’ River Ministry. During his nearly 30 years with River Ministry, Baptists started 670 churches along the Rio Grande, formed two associations of churches, launched six children’s homes and began 67 healthcare clinics in Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Kimberly H. Todaro; son, Paul Howell; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and five great-grandchildren.

Alvin R. Lee, 92, died in Germantown, Tenn. He served as pastor of churches in Delaware and New Jersey before transitioning to an area minister for the American Baptist Churches in New Jersey and Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rachel. He is survived by a daughter, Catherine Whitaker; a son, Daniel; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Claude A. Marvin, 95, died Aug. 11 in St. Augustine, Fla. After 42 years of a career in business, he was ordained an American Baptist minister and began a second career serving as pastor of four New York churches: The Calvary Baptist Church, Utica; the Community Baptist Church, Marcy; Lebanon Federated Church, Lebanon.; and First Baptist Church, Newport, from which he retired in 2004. He then served as supply pastor and interim pastor for several churches.

Edd Matako, 79, died July 31 in Massillon, Ohio. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Pittsburg, Kansas; First Baptist Church of Coshocton, Ohio; and First Baptist Church, Stow, Ohio. He was adult and congregation care minister at First Baptist Church, Massillon, Ohio, until his retirement in 2021. He is survived by his wife, Judy Marie; two sons, Scott and Shaun; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mark Reon, 62, died Sept. 4 in Suffolk, Va. He retired as pastor of Christ First Church in Suffolk in 2021. He was a former youth minister at Colonial Heights (Va.) Baptist Church and planted the college student church at ODU (now Cross Roads Church). He is survived by his wife, Julia; and four daughters, Rachel, Jessee, Grace and Lindsey.
