BNG co-sponsors free webinar: ‘The Christian Case Against Conversion Therapy’

NewsBNG staff  |  August 4, 2021

A free webinar exploring the dangers of conversion therapy for members of the LGBTQ community is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 24, at noon Central time. The webinar, titled “The Christian Case Against Conversion Therapy,” falls in the same month that the new film “Pray Away” has debuted on Netflix and that Good Faith Media releases a series of individual stories and commentary on the church’s support for the discredited practice.

Good Faith Media, Baptist News Global and Q Christian Fellowship are co-sponsors of the webinar, which will be moderated by Mitch Randall of Good Faith Media and Mark Wingfield of Baptist News Global.

Q Christian Fellowship, in conjunction with the Trevor Project, will provide information about their free downloadable educational resource, “The Good Fruit Project.”

The webinar will address the continued practice of conversion therapy by churches and faith-based nonprofits. Practitioners of conversion therapy claim they can help gay and lesbian clients reorient themselves to be heterosexual.

Confirmed panelists include Casey Pick, Nathaniel Green and Amber Cantorna. Additional panelists will be announced as they are confirmed. Pick serves as senior fellow for advocacy and government affairs with the Trevor Project. Green serves as communications manager for Q Christian Fellowship and communications and operations specialist for GracePointe Church in Nashville, Tenn. Cantorna leads the Unashamed Love Collective and is the author of two books, Refocusing My Family, and Unashamed: A Coming Out Guide for LGBTQ Christians.

The webinar is free, but advance registration is required for the Zoom session. Register here. Participants will be able to ask questions of panelists. The webinar will be simulcast on Facebook Live.
