STAFF CHANGES

Clarence “Whitey” Davis, to Sharon Church, Rice, as interim pastor.

RETIREMENT

Al Peverall has announced plans to retire as pastor of Jackson Memorial Church, Chesapeake, effective Jan. 1. He has been pastor of the church for almost 16 years.

ORDINATION

Semikueva Mauga, pastor of the Samoan Fellowship which meets at First View Church, Norfolk, was ordained to the gospel ministry on Oct. 3 by First View Church.

CHURCH EVENTS

Bethany Church, Callao; homecoming Nov. 7; Pastor Kornel Kiss will speak; dinner on the grounds; music program to follow.

The singles ministry of Bon Air Church, Rich­mond, will sponsor the Agapé Café on Friday, Nov. 5. Singles can enjoy a home-style turkey dinner and great music. Dinner is $5.00 and reservations are needed by Nov. 3. Call 804-916-9055 or email [email protected].

OTHER

November 15-22 will be the National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child, the annual project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Chris­tian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham. In the past decade, Operation Christmas Child has hand-delivered more than 31-million shoe box gifts to children in more than 120 countries. New Bethesda Baptist Church in Mechanicsville will be a collection center to receive boxes during collection week. There are many other centers across Virginia. On Nov. 13 over 50,000 women will gather in churches across America to experience the THRIVE Simulcast–Authentic Living. New Bridge Baptist Church in Sandston will be a host location for the simulcast. Tickets are $35 (includes lunch and 2 breaks). The Virginia Baptist Women’s Chorale will be presenting a concert of sacred music on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at Rhoadesville Church, Rhoadesville. The chorale is composed of women from across the state that serve in music ministry in their church. Rebekah Clawson of Rosalind Hills Church, Roanoke, is the conductor of the chorale and Catherine C. White of Madison Heights Church, Madison Heights, serves as accompanist.

ASSOCIATIONAL NEWS

Timothy L. Boschen has resigned as director of missions of Central Virginia Baptist Association, effective Oct. 1, to accept the position of marriage and family therapist at the Charlottesville League of Therapists.

“Farewell Fellowship Dinner” for Hispanic Mission
Stevens Memorial Church in Newport News held a “Farewell Fellowship Dinner” for its Hispanic mission on Aug. 29. The Gethsemane Hispanic Baptist Mission has shared the facilities at Stevens Memorial since 1991. On Oct. 6 Angel Casiano, a native of Puerto Rico, became pastor of the congregation. The farewell dinner celebrated Gethsemane’s move to its new location in Newport News. Pictured above (from left) are Jim Ailor, director of missions of Peninsula Baptist Association; Bill Holloway, interim pastor of Stevens Memorial Church; David Piercy, chairman of deacons of Stevens Memorial; Juan Virella, chairman of deacons of Gethse­mane; Angel Casiano, pastor of Gethsemane; and John White, coordinator between the two congregations.
