STAFF CHANGES

• Jonathan Susee, to LaCrosse Church, LaCrosse, as full-time pastor.

BETHEL HONORS LONGTIME MEMBER: Bethel Church in Chase City recently honored Vergie Lee Hall on her 90th birthday. She made a profession of faith and was baptized in 1930 by W. C. Hughes, pastor of Bethel at the time. She and her husband, Will, who died in 2000, were active members of the church for many years. Vergie painted the Jordan River scene in the baptistry at Bethel. Pictured (left to right) are: Vergie Lee Hall, Pastor Richard Martin and her son, Lee Hall.

• Gene Burris, to Liberty Church, Skipwith, as full-time pastor.

• Charles Lumpkin, resigning as pastor of Oak Level Church, Bassett.

• Kelly Tolley, to Buena Vista Church, Buena Vista, as youth director.

• Carla Dillard, to Parham Road Church, Richmond, as minister of children, youth and families.

• Maristela Araujo, concluding her ministry as director of children and youth at Carlisle Avenue Church, Richmond.

• Neal Flippin, to Old Powhatan Church, Powhatan, as director of missional community living.

RETIREMENT

• William H. Smith has retired as pastor of Memorial Church, Arlington, effective June 10.

ORDINATIONS

• Ruth Graham was ordained to the gospel ministry by University Church, Charlottesville, on Aug. 1.

MISSION MOMENT: First Church, Springfield, was transformed into Saddle Ridge Ranch for VBS June 27-July 1. The children participated in a local missions project, CrossLink International, during VBS week by raising over $700 for this Christian non-profit ministry that provides humanitarian aid and equips medical mission teams, local free clinics and mission hospitals with customized orders of medicines, supplies and eyeglasses.

• Travis Nichols, pastor of Moore’s Memorial Church, Gate City, was ordained to the gospel ministry on June 27 by the church.

HOMECOMINGS & REVIVALS

• Antioch Church, Unionville; homecoming Aug. 15; Murphy Terry, speaker; covered-dish lunch.

• Central Hill Church, Windsor; revival Aug. 29-Sept. 1; Jon Cash, evangelist.

• Jeffress Church, Clarksville; revival Aug. 22-25; different evangelist each night.

MISSION MOMENT: A youth mission team from First Church, Newport News, traveled to Booneville, Ky., June 26-July 3 to provide activities including Bible clubs, sports, crafts and music for children. The youth team and chaperones are pictured with seven members from Emmaus Church, Poquoson, who joined First Church.

• Olive Branch Church, Blackridge; homecoming Sept. 12; Doug Willett, guest speaker.

• Mt. Tabor Church, Arvonia; revival Aug. 22-25; Roger Roller, evangelist.

• State Line Church, Danville; homecoming Aug. 22; David Cox, speaker; music by William Gunnell and New Harmony; covered-dish lunch.

• Villa Heights Church, Martinsville; 50th anniversary Aug. 29; Ray Farrow, guest speaker; lunch following the service.

• Woodlawn Church, Colonial Heights; homecoming Aug. 22; former pastor Robert McKinley, speaker; picnic on the grounds.

OTHER

MISSION MOMENT: A team of 20 from First Church, Newport News, led by Dennis Adams, minister of music, traveled to Camp Hargita in Romania June 21-July 4. The team interacted with 140 campers through Bible studies, crafts and recreation. Sixty children accepted Jesus as Savior during the trip.

• The Resource Center in Richmond will host “Teachers Toolbox 2010: Teaching All God’s Children” on Sat., Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at River Road Church, Richmond. For more information visit www.resourcingchurches.com.

• Praise in the Park, hosted on Tuesday evenings in July and August at 7 p.m. at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton by Linden Heights Baptist Church, will conclude its season with the following music groups. August 17–Emily Henline at 7 p.m. and The Crestman Quartet at 8 p.m. Aug. 24–Doyle Moats Jr. at 7 p.m. and Heaven’s Mountain Boys at 8 p.m. Aug. 31–Calvary Baptist Choir at 7 p.m. and Spirit Led at 8 p.m.
