To the family and friends of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and to our countless other hard-working, community-building immigrant neighbors, “In the name and Spirit of Christ our Lord, we are deeply sorry for the actions of the United States government.”
A campaign promise to detain and deport “the worst of the worst” has become a campaign of cruelty against the best of the best, beautiful immigrant families afraid to go to work and church, many detained even at courthouses while trying to follow required check-in procedures.
This way of treating our immigrant neighbors is a grave national sin, for which I call on the United States government to repent; a grave sin concerning which I say, again, to our immigrant neighbors, in the name and Spirit of Jesus who once, himself, belonged to a migrating family, “I am sorry.”

A la familia y amigos de Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, y a nuestros incontables otros vecinos inmigrantes trabajadores y constructores de comunidad, “En el nombre y el espíritu de Jesucristo, lamentamos profundamente por las acciones de los Estados Unidos.”
Una promesa de campaña de detener y deportar a los peores de los peores se ha convertido en una campana de crueldad contra la mejor de lo mejor; hermosa familias inmigrantes con miedo de ir al trabajo y a la iglesia;mucho detenidos, incluso, en los juzgados mientras intentan seguir los procedimientos de registro requeridos.
Esta forma de tratar a nuestros vecinos inmigrantes es un grave pecado nacional, por lo cual hago un llamado al gobierno de los Estados Unidos a arrepentirse; un grave pecado nacional sobre el cual dijo, nuevamente, a nuestros vecinos inmigrantes, en el nombre y el espíritu de Jesuscristo, que,alguna vez,perteneció a familia migrante, “Lo siento.”
