RICHMOND, Va. — Susan Stratton, wife of Baptist General Association of Virginia treasurer Eddie Stratton, died April 22 following a long battle with cancer.
Stratton had lived in Richmond since 2002, when her husband became treasurer of the BGAV and the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. She served as a bridal consultant in the city and the couple was active at First Baptist Church in Richmond.
Earlier, the Strattons lived in Waynesboro, Va., for 30 years, where they attended the city’s First Baptist Church. Stratton started the church’s pre-school program and served as its first director. She also taught in Waynesboro’s public schools.
Born and raised in Reidsville, N.C., Stratton attended High Point University in High Point, N.C., where she met Eddie Stratton.
In addition to her husband of 40 years, Stratton is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Meredith and Robert Batson of Arlington, Va., and Ann Kathryn and Graham Johnson of Richmond; one grandson, Thomas Walker Batson of Arlington; her mother, Annie Grey Haynes, of Reidsville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held April 27 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Richmond. A reception at the church will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Stratton’s name be made to the endowment fund of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, or the pre-school programs of First Baptist Church in Waynesboro or First Baptist Church in Richmond.
