Trisha Miller Manarin, to the Baptist World Alliance, as coordinator for the division of mission evangelism and justice. She is executive coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and director of supervised ministry and an adjunct professor at the John Leland Center for Theological Studies.

Edgar Palacios, concluding his tenure after 18 years as pastor of Christian education at Calvary Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., to become El Salvador ambassador to Canada.

DEATHS
Lien Hwa Chow, 96, died Aug. 6 in Taiwan. He was one of the leading Baptist theologians and theological educators on the Asian continent. He was professor at Taiwan Baptist Theological Seminary from 1954-1985 and president of ABGTS, a consortium of nine seminaries in eight countries, from 1995-2004. He was pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Gaipei, Taiwan, from 1954-1985. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Yuan. He is survived by three sons, Joel, John and Joshua.
Charles Z. Smith, 89, died Aug. 28 in Seattle, Wash. He was former president of American Baptist Churches USA, who rose from simple beginnings in the Deep South to become a pioneering African American jurist. He worked for more than 50 years as an attorney and served as an associate dean of the University of Washington Law School. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; four children; and six grandchildren.
Bailey Stone, 86, died Aug 26 in Plano, Texas. He was a full-time evangelist before becoming pastor of Longview Heights Baptist Church, Memphis, Tenn. He also was pastor of these Texas Baptist churches: First Baptist of McKinney; First Baptist of Bryan, and First Baptist of Odessa. He then became director of evangelism of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons, Bailey III, Tim and John; and four grandchildren.
